Georgia Cancer Specialists (GCS)—a Top 10 private cancer practice in the U.S.—continues to grow and expand its services with the addition of Kristy McDonald, M.D. Dr. McDonald is board certified in internal medicine and board eligible in hematology and medical oncology. She will practice at the GCS Douglasville office (6002 Professional Parkway, Suite 200, Douglasville, GA 30134; 770-942-0457).

Dr. McDonald received her medial degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia. She completed her residency in internal medicine, as well as her fellowship in hematology and medical oncology, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. While at the Medical College of Georgia, Dr. McDonald received honors in surgery, neurology, pediatrics, and medicine. Head, neck, and colon cancers are among her special interests and specialties. She is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology, American Medical Women’s Association, and the American College of Physicians.
Dr. McDonald is driven by her desire to deliver compassionate care to patients. “When facing a cancer diagnosis, it’s important to trust the physician who will guide your care. What I find most rewarding regarding my work is building relationships with patients and their families. It is important to realize that we are treating a person, not a disease,” Dr. McDonald said.
Prior to her entrance into the medical community, Dr. McDonald studied film at Savannah College of Art and Design. While working towards her Bachelor of Fine Arts she received various awards and was nominated for an Emmy for her animation work on the children’s television program, Salsa.
