Lung Cancer Kills Almost Twice as Many Women as Breast Cancer

Monday, December 5th, 2011

Did you know lung cancer kills almost twice as many women as breast cancer?

It is a common myth that more women die from breast cancer than lung cancer. Nearly half of lung cancer cases occur in women, and more women die from lung cancer than any other form of cancer. Lung cancer kills more women each year than breast cancer, uterine cancer, and ovarian cancer combined.

There are ways you can reduce your risk for lung cancer:

  • If you are a smoker, quit. Smoking is the number one cause of lung cancer in men and women.
  • Avoid secondhand smoke.
  • Test your home for other environmental factors such as radon and asbestos.
  • Enjoy a healthy diet.
  • Exercise.
