GCS Physicians Lead Atlanta and Georgia for Most Top Docs Named in Respected Reference Guide

Nine Georgia Cancer Specialists (GCS) physicians were recently named Top Doctors in Metro Atlanta in the third edition of Consumer Checkbook’s Consumers Guide to Top Doctors, one of the top medical reference guides in the country.

Drs. Victoria Afshani, Bruce Feinberg, Janice Galleshaw, Pradeep Jolly, Bancroft Lesesne, Melvin Moore, Jayanthi Srinivasiah, Stephen Szabo, and Gena Volas-Redd were selected.

There were a total of 28 oncologists/hematologists listed for Georgia, including the nine from GCS. The next closest practice had six physicians listed.

“Our doctors take pride in giving patients great care,” said Dr. Feinberg, president and CEO of GCS. “It’s fulfilling to know that our fellow physicians recognize this.”

Consumer Checkbook surveyed roughly 340,000 physicians nationwide in more than 50 of the largest Metropolitan Statistical Areas, including in Metro Atlanta (defined as Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, and Rockdale Counties). All active, office-based doctors on the American Medical Association (AMA) mailing list were included in the survey. The AMA list is a comprehensive list, which includes both AMA members and doctors who are not AMA members.

Each doctor surveyed was asked to choose one or two specialists, in each of 35 different specialty fields, he or she ‘would consider most desirable for care of a loved one.’

The list of doctors contains the names of physicians who were mentioned multiple times by other physicians in their communities.

Georgia Cancer Specialists is the largest private medical oncology/hematology practice in the Southeast and a leader in advanced cancer treatment and research. The practice offers community-based medical oncology and hematology services and is the first private oncology practice to also provide a full range of support services for patients in Georgia, including nutritional counseling, pain management, wellness counseling, and home health coordination. The GCS research department, whose focus is bringing targeted cancer therapy to communities, is the first in Georgia to offer Phase I clinical trials, the most novel cancer therapies available. GCS has 30 offices, 42 physicians, and more than 480 support staff members located in Metro Atlanta, North and Central Georgia, Southeast Tennessee, and Southwest North Carolina, and provides care through approximately 205,000 annual patient visits.
