Georgia Cancer Specialists (GCS) President/CEO Dr. Bruce Feinberg was interviewedfor an article by Atlanta Business Chronicle health reporter Erin Moriarty on Friday, February 17, that covered proposed tax breaks for doctors who switch to an electronic, rather than paper-based, medical records system.
In the article, Dr. Feinberg voiced his support of the idea.
“The bottom line is any redress to this issue is welcome because nothing is being done right now,” he was quoted as saying. “There’s a great deal of talk about how this is the wave of the future … despite that, there has been nothing to simulate the process.”
Dr. Feinberg also used a scenario from GCS’s practice history to demonstrate the benefits of electronic medical records. When the story broke that Vioxx could cause heart attacks and strokes in some patients, GCS was able to use its electronic system to quickly identify and contact over 200 patients who were taking the drug and may have been at risk.
