Georgia Cancer Specialists Elects New President

Dr. Al Soltan to Lead GCS, a Top 10 Private Cancer Practice in the U.S.

Al Soltan, MDOctober 1, 2012 (Atlanta) — Georgia Cancer Specialists (GCS), a Top 10 private cancer practice in the U.S., elected Dr. Al Soltan as the new president and CEO of the group, effective October 1. He succeeds Dr. J. Bancroft Lesesne, who served in the same capacity since 2010.

Dr. Lesesne will serve as President Emeritus in an ex-officio capacity and will continue seeing patients at the GCS Northside office. Remaining in their positions are Dr. Cheryl Jones as Vice President, Ron Fleming as Chief Financial Officer, and Dr. Wendy Hawke Lenz as Chief Operating Officer.

Dr. Lesesne is appreciative of the opportunity he was given to run the practice, and is confident GCS is in good hands with Dr. Soltan. “I’m honored to have led Georgia Cancer Specialists for the past two years. We have a terrific staff that is dedicated to providing the best of care to our patients. I know Dr. Soltan will provide strong, dedicated leadership.”

Dr. Soltan previously served as secretary of GCS and currently serves on the GCS Board of Directors. He is board certified in medical oncology and hematology and is also a member of the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the American College of Healthcare Executives.

He said he is grateful for the opportunity and ready for this new challenge. “I’m humbled to know my colleagues have the confidence in me to elect me president and CEO of GCS,” said Dr. Soltan. “I look forward to leading GCS into the future and building on our impressive legacy of world-class patient care and cutting edge research.”

Dr. Soltan completed his fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. He also holds a Masters in Business Administration. His area of special interest is hematologic malignancies. Dr. Soltan currently sees patients at the GCS Cobb and GCS Paulding offices.
