Pain when passing urine, blood in the urine, or a change in bladder function (such as needing to pass urine more or less often than usual) could be related to bladder or prostate cancer. Contact your physician if you are experiencing these symptoms.

When should I start getting screened for prostate cancer?

It is recommended that screening for prostate cancer begin at age 50. If you have a family history of colon cancer, or are of African-American descent, you should consider beginning screening at age 45.

Is prostate cancer screening really effective?

Conflicting studies have emerged about the effectiveness of prostate-specific antigen screening for prostate cancer, however GCS recommends annual screenings after the age of 50.
