Next week we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and “the luck of the Irish.”
But is there really such a thing as luck? Of course there are those who are less fortunate by no fault of their own.
But often we do control our destiny. This is certainly true with our health.
For starters, we can greatly reduce our risk of heart disease and cancer—America’s two biggest killers—by not smoking, exercising consistently, and eating right.
Add regular screenings to detect these diseases early and you can do even more to control your fate.
My coach used to say that luck is when preparation meets opportunity.
I hope on St. Patrick’s Day you will take the opportunity to improve your health and prepare yourself for the rest of your life.
This is Dr. Bruce Feinberg. Be well.
