Healthcare policy

Wake up! It’s an election year: another opportunity to influence your future, and your children’s lives as well.

What issues will shape your votes? I hope you put healthcare near the top of the list.

You might say, “We have the best healthcare system in the world. There are other issues to worry about.”

But you’d be surprised.

The measures most often used to gauge the success of a nation’s healthcare are how many babies survive the first year of life, and how long do people live.

You wouldn’t think that the US ranks 35th in infant mortality, well behind countries like Cuba and Taiwan.

Nor would you guess that the US is 38th in life expectancy, trailing Puerto Rico, Jordan, and 35 others.

That’s the bad news. The good news is that the ballot box is the answer, and you get a chance to vote.

This November, examine the candidates’ records on healthcare and take matters into your own hands. For many, it could be the difference between life and death.

This is Dr. Bruce Feinberg. Be well.
