The Decline in Cancer Mortality Rates

The biggest health story in a long time was the announcement of the first decline in cancer mortality rates in 70 years.

But is this really news?

Actually, we’ve been seeing this trend for about a decade.

And while there is much work left to do, we’re winning the war on cancer on a number of fronts:

  • First, better prevention from lifestyle changes, most importantly smoking cessation and healthy diet
  • Second, improved screening tests for colon, cervix, breast, and prostate cancers
  • Third, advances in treatment with less toxic, more effective therapies that not only extend lives, but increase the number of cures

The result is: lower incidence, longer survival, and less mortality.

At GCS, winning the war on cancer isn’t news; we’re living it every day.

This is Dr. Bruce Feinberg. Be well.
