Every so often, when I tell my patients that I am prescribing them steroids as part of their cancer treatment plan, I get a strange look.
“Don’t worry,” I tell them. “You’re not going to get kicked out of your church softball league, and you won’t have to testify before congress.”
Actually, steroids are some of the most commonly prescribed medicines today. They’re quite common in cancer management.
Steroids are actually a complex group of naturally occurring chemicals called hormones.
Hormones are chemical messengers that are produced in one part of the body and travel through the blood to other parts of the body where they have an affect.
Hormones are categorized into groups, like sex hormones and growth hormones, and are necessary for normal body function.
In some diseases, there may be a hormone imbalance, in others we’re using a natural remedy.
So Arnold, did you get that?
