St. Patrick’s Day

This week we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and “the luck of the Irish.”

But is there really such a thing as luck? Of course there are those who, by no fault of their own, are less fortunate than the rest of us.

But in many cases, we do control our own destiny, and our health is certainly one thing we have a say in.

For starters, we can greatly reduce our risk of developing heart disease and cancer—America’s two biggest killers—simply by exercising consistently, eating right, and not smoking.

Add regular visits to your doctor to detect these diseases early and you can help your physician establish an appropriate treatment plan, should you need one.

My coach used to say that luck is when preparation meets opportunity.

I hope that St. Patrick’s Day will remind you to take the opportunity to improve your health and prepare yourself for the rest of your life.
