This week we celebrate our nation’s independence, and if you’re like me you’ll have Old Glory in one hand and a grill tool in the other.
But while you’re grilling those burgers and dogs, remember that too much red or processed meat significantly raises your risk of colon cancer, in addition to cardiovascular disease.
Now I’m not telling you to deny yourself the gastronomic pleasure of a perfectly grilled steak, but consider making red meat a treat instead of a routine.
You can start this week, when the grill is hot and the flags are flying, mix it up with some fish or skinless chicken breasts.
Our forefathers will appreciate your staying healthy so you can stick around long enough to see a few more Fourth of July weekends, and your body will thank you for keeping cancer and other diseases at bay.
