Is it OK to be fat if you’re fit?
As American’s waistbands grow and physical activity decreases, more people are becoming overweight and obese.
But studies show that you can be both heavy and healthy, if you exercise enough.
In a recent, large study, men who were overweight but fit were half as likely to die over an eight year period as men who were lean but out of shape.
Another study found that lack of physical activity is a better predictor of heart attacks than obesity.
Being overweight or obese carries other health concerns, and its certainly healthiest to be both fit and trim, but the point is that exercise does more for your health than losing weight through dieting.
So if you’ve been working out, and the pounds aren’t melting away like you want, don’t be discouraged. You’re doing wonders for your health, no matter what the scale says.
