It’s summer time, and that means fun in the sun.
As always, take care of yourself. Wear protective clothing and sunscreen, and reduce your risk of developing skin cancer.
But don’t boycott those sunny days completely. They can have their health benefits too.
Sunlight activates vitamin D, which helps reduce the risk of certain cancers, including those of the prostate and colon.
Exposure to sunlight also increases your body’s production of endorphins, internal chemicals that promote a sense of well-being. So that warm and fuzzy feeling you get in the sun isn’t just from the Corona in your hand.
So, while I won’t be writing prescriptions for sunbathing anytime soon, I will tell you to treat yourself to 15 minutes of sunshine a day to trigger your body’s natural vitamin D production and get those feel-good endorphins flowing.
Just like my mother says, everything in moderation.
