Most cancers involving bone are the result of tumor cell spread through the blood referred to as bone metastasis. Primary bone cancer is rare. Tumors of bone, cartilage, muscle, and other connective tissues are called sarcomas. Although there are many subtypes of sarcomas, in aggregate they represent only 1% of adult cancers.
