As part of that commitment, 14 female oncologists specializing in breast cancer prevention and treatment use a unique and standardized treatment approach for the thousands of breast cancer patients who entrust us with their care each year.
Every patient is different, of course, but everyone deserves the very best from their treatment team. That’s what Georgia Cancer Specialists promises.
The 10-step method—developed by our doctors, nurses, social workers, nutritionists, and wellness staff—is your road map to comprehensive, compassionate, and collaborative breast cancer care. It includes communicating openly with you, working with specialists outside of our practice when advantageous, and drawing on the latest information and technologies to make important treatment decisions.
Georgia Cancer Specialists’s 10-Step Method for Treating Breast Cancer Patients:
1. Keeping current on breast cancer treatment. We attend regular training sessions and national conferences to ensure that the latest breast cancer research and treatment tools are effectively incorporated into your care.
2. Reaching out to the community. We participate in community events to share the latest cancer information and stay connected to the world outside our offices.
3. Connecting to community resources. Every community offers valuable resources for cancer care. We familiarize ourselves with these resources and connect our patients to local support organizations.
4. Answering all patient questions. We allow enough time during new patient appointments to fully discuss treatment options, possible side effects, and what to expect during follow-up visits.
5. Listening to and communicating with patients. Because we care about you, we take the time to listen to your concerns and ensure you are comfortable with your treatment experience.
6. Including each patient in the decision-making process. We believe that informed patients who actively take part in their care are healthier and happier. That’s why we tell you the full range of treatment options and value you and your family’s input.
7. Supporting recommendations with information from clinical trials and publications. We understand the importance of sharing the latest in clinical research and how it affects your treatment—in terms you understand.
8. Communicating with other physicians involved in each patient’s care. We work closely with surgeons, radiation oncologists, and other cancer specialists that support our treatment efforts. When advantageous, we will pick up the phone and talk to another doctor about your care while you are in our office.
9. Involving mid-level professionals, nurses, nutritionists, and wellness staff in each patient’s cancer care team. GCS provides a multidisciplinary approach for your breast cancer care. Your team works together to tailor your treatment plan, recommend secondary support and education, and give you information on diet, exercise, and nutrition.
10. Referring patients for participation in clinical trials. GCS supports clinical research and makes clinical trials available to patients when appropriate. Often, these trials offer participants access to drugs or treatments not yet available to the general public and provide additional medical attention from physicians and nurses.
